Women through to Round Two

It’s been a comeback kinda weekend for the Fleet as following Dominic Samuel’s 95th minute goal at Hartlepool, the Ebbsfleet United Women twice turned around a deficit at Chesham United Ladies to soar into Round Two of the Women’s FA Cup.

There was an early blow at The Meadow when Chesham got off the mark on four minutes and they maintained that lead into half-time. Logan O’Shea replied for the Fleet on the hour mark but it took Chesham just three minutes to regain the advantage.

The higher-tier Generals weren’t having it all their own way, however, and a goalmouth scramble produced a second equaliser courtesy of Hannah Porter for the Fleet with 15 minutes left to play. With the Second Round looming large for both sides heading towards the final period, it was Ben Franks’s team who secured passage to the next stage when the prolific Amelia Woodgate settled the game in the Fleet’s favour on 80 minutes with a top-corner-bound effort from the edge of the box.

The draw for the next round takes place tomorrow (Monday) at 1pm.
