Winfield has a window for return

Club captain Dave Winfield received some good news today regarding the ruptured medial ligament injury he sustained against Maidstone United in early August.

Having attended a specialist in London today, to check on the progress of his recuperation after six weeks, he has been told that the ligament fibres have grown and knitted back together well and he will not require surgery.

This means he should be able to play in around six weeks, a much better prognosis than originally feared. He needs to have four weeks of knee-strengthening treatment in the gym and a further fortnight of general fitness work before returning to full training.

The news will be a big boost to Daryl McMahon who at one point considered the loss of his skipper for the entire season.
