We cleaned up just in time for Christmas

A big thank you to all the Fleet fans and volunteers from the Northfleet Big Local who took to the streets in the rain on the morning of the Oxford City game to take part in the Community Clean Up Event organised jointly with our partners at Gravesham Borough Council and the Northfleet Big Local.
Some 35 bags of rubbish were collected by over 22 volunteers of all ages, with two teams heading separately up Stonebridge Road and Grove Road, meeting up along College Road at Wallis Park. About 2.25 million pieces of litter are dropped on the streets of the UK every day. Thirty million tons of rubbish are collected from England’s streets each year. That’s enough to fill Wembley Stadium four times over.

I am now in discussions with Gravesham Council about organising another similar event to coincide with the ‘Clean for The Queen’ campaign launched by Keep Britain Tidy to clear up Britain in time for The Queen’s 90th birthday in 2016. This campaign will rally an army of volunteers across the country to clean up their local areas and will include a special clean-up weekend on 4th–6th March, 2016, which coincides with the Fleet’s home game v Gosport Borough.
