Fleet have added another dimension to their attacking options by clinching a season-long loan deal for Stevenage striker Michael Thalassitis. The 6ft 1in Cypriot U19 international was a graduate of the League One club’s centre of excellence and penned a professional contract with them in 2011.
Another versatile player, 20-year-old Michael has turned out for Stevenage in a variety of positions though in various loan spells he has been amongst the goals: he netted five in 11 games at Boreham Wood, including a hat-trick against Dover, and then scored three in five games at Hayes & Yeading in the Conference Premier. He returned to Stevenage at the beginning of the 2012-13 season, signing a three-year contract extension and scoring against Southampton in a League Cup tie. Further loan spells at Cambridge United and Bishop’s Stortford followed before another fruitful few months at Boreham Wood, netting seven times in 19 games as Wood challenged for the Conference South play-offs.
Michael spoke to EUFC.co.uk on signing to say, “I am really pleased to have been given the opportunity to play for Ebbsfleet United this coming season. Stevenage have been very generous in allowing me to have this season-long loan, which means I can really settle down and become a full-time member of the squad. I am really looking forward to this new challenge and getting to know my new teammates.”
