Five more matches remain of this 2024/25 campaign and with three home fixtures left to play, the Fleet begin that run-in at the Kuflink Stadium against Sutton United.
Form guide
It’s been a mixed run of form throughout the campaign that sees Sutton 12th in the National League in their first season back following relegation from the EFL. Manager Steve Morison recruited plenty of new players during the summer after a big clearout that has allowed Sutton to consolidate. A midweek win at home to Rochdale was the U’s first league win since the middle of March and their first home league win since January.
It came thanks to a late Ashley Nadesan winner and the same player, on loan from Gillingham, scored a late equaliser against Southend last Saturday.
Last time out
The Fleet recovered from a 2-0 deficit in the league game at Gander Green Lane with goals from Dom Poleon and a Franklin Domi spectacular but it wasn’t quite enough for the three points. Three months later, the Fleet once again came from behind in the FA Trophy to lead 3-1 but it ended 3-3 and Sutton booked their place in the next round on penalties.

A big motivation for the Fleet, as well as gaining some revenge for those two close defeats, would be to end a winless home run against Sutton stretching back to 2015.
Who’s who
Will Davies made the switch from York City to Sutton in the summer and has scored 19 goals in 43 appearances this season. He broke through Ipswich’s academy and then made the move to Leiston where he scored 50 goals in two seasons which later earned him a move to Braintree. He also had a loan spell with Bromley last season.
Ashley Nadesan is on a season-long loan from Gillingham. He has scored seven goals in his 40 appearances. Previous clubs include Fleetwood Town, Carlisle United and most notably Crawley Town where he featured over 125 times for the club.
Lewis Simper joined Sutton in the summer from Cambridge United where he had graduated through the academy. Simper also made 13 League One appearances.
The manager
Steve Morison played regularly against the Fleet for Bishop’s Stortford and Stevenage before his football pedigree skyrocketed in the EFL with Millwall, Norwich City and Leeds United, while he also earned 20 caps for Wales.
As a manager he was with Cardiff City in the Championship and then put Hornchurch on the road to promotion before taking over at Sutton early in 2024.
