Preview: Maidenhead United

The Fleet welcome Maidenhead United to the Kuflink Stadium this Saturday for the final home fixture of the 2024/25 campaign – with the two National South title rivals of eight years ago possibly meeting back at that level again next season. To avoid that, Maidenhead have to win otherwise their relegation could be sealed with a week to go.

Form guide
The visitors need to secure all three points if they want to head into the final match of the season with the chance of survival. The Magpies’ recent form has seen them earn two wins, two draws and a defeat and they have remained unbeaten since the end of March when they fell short to Dagenham & Redbridge. However, a draw with fellow relegation rivals Wealdstone didn’t help on Easter Monday.

Previous affairs
This is a tough fixture to predict with the teams usually close in their recent head-to-head meetings. In the previous 10 fixtures the Fleet have come out on top four times and Maidenhead only twice, with four draws.

In the reverse fixture in September, the Fleet fell to a 2-1 defeat as Tristan Abrahams and Shawn McCoulksy goals cancelled out a late wonder strike from Josh Wright.

Who’s who?
Shawn McCoulsky
joined the Magpies in January 2022 and is Maidenhead’s current top goalscorer this season with 12. The 28-year-old was with Bristol City as a youth before spells in non-league with Weston-suuper-Mare and Bath City.

Will de Havilland signed for the Magpies following his departure from Dover Athletic. Since his debut, the 30-year-old has featured over 130 times during his four-year spell. De Havilland has previously played for the likes of Maidstone and Wycombe Wanderers.

Former Fleet winger Brendan Kiernan is a recent arrival at Maidenhead. He played for the Fleet in 2014/15 and after time with Hampton and Welling United, he has enjoyed a few years back in the EFL with Harrogate Town, Walsall and Grimsby Town.
