The Fleet are back on the road this Tuesday night to take on Maidenhead United at York Road as Harry Watling’s side continue the quest for another three points and a first win away from home.
Last time out
Maidenhead suffered their third successive defeat when FC Halifax Town travelled to Berkshire and secured a 1-0 victory with Florent Hoti grabbing the only goal of the match in the 69th minute. It leaves Maidenhead level on points with the Fleet in the bottom two having won just one of their 10 games this season, that being an impressive 3-1 victory over Barnet.
Previous affairs
Last season’s trip to York Road in January proved to be an important win as Dom Samuel’s 82nd minute winner separated the two sides in what was Dennis Kutrieb’s last victory as Fleet manager. The reverse fixture at the Kuflink Stadium two months before saw the points shared in a 1-1 draw.
Fleet have lost only one of 11 visits to York Road (in 2014) and have won six of them (or seven if you count beating Hayes & Yeading there when the clubs groundshared).
Who’s who
Craig Ross is an experienced goalkeeper who joined the Magpies from Woking in 2023 and has also played for the likes of Macclesfield Town, Eastbourne, Whitehawk and Barnet throughout his career.
Tyrese Dyce – Following a successful spell at Slough Town where he played against the Fleet in the FA Cup last season, full-back Dyce signed for the Magpies in June. He spent his youth career at Sunderland and West Brom as well as having a spell at Gosport Borough.
Kane Ferdinand joined the Magpies back in 2021 and has gone on to make more than 100 appearances for the side. Ferdinand, who was named Alan Devonshire’s Player of the Season for 2022/23, has played against the Fleet for Woking and East Thurrock United in a career that has also taken him to Peterborough, Southend and Dagenham.
Currently Maidenhead’s leading goalscorer with three, Tristan Abrahams arrived at York Road in February having previously had spells at Eastleigh, Newport County, Carlisle United and Grimsby Town.
Club connections
Toby Edser and Kane Ferdinand were teammates at Woking while Maidenhead striker Tobi Sho-Silva spent time at Sutton alongside Louis John and Will Randall.
The manager
Maidenhead’s manager will need no introduction to football fans. Alan Devonshire made 358 appearances for West Ham United and was capped for England eight times in a career that included an FA Cup win and Second Division title. He took the reins at York Road back in 2015 for a second time, guiding Maidenhead to the Vanarama National League South title in 2016/17 by two points from the Fleet. He has also enjoyed successful spells with Hampton and Braintree Town.
