Poppy Appeal raises money as Fleet set to mark Christmas truce

Fleet fans helped raised £76.68 through the sale of poppies and via Royal British Legion collection boxes at the recent home game v Bath City – and the players are set to help mark the 1914 Christmas Truce at Maidenhead tomorrow.

As part of the British Council, FA, Football League and Premier League ‘Football Remembers’ events, the Football Conference has instructed that all 22 players who start the match tomorrow pose with match officials for an informal photograph, with each squad intermingled to reflect the spirit of Christmas 1914.

Football teams across the country are being asked to publicise the event and upload these photos via social media – and supporters can share using the hashtag #FootballRemembers.

There are numerous activities taking place around the country during the Football Remembers period starting from tomorrow. Matchday programme Fleet Review will carry a feature on the story behind the Truce in our Weston-super-Mare match publication (December 20).
