The Fleet have added central defender Jean-Yves Koue Niate to their defensive options following a trial period during which the French player turned out in a Kent Senior Cup tie and spent the week training alongside the first team.
The 24-year-old Parisian played in his homeland for Cannes and AS Poissy before a spell in Belgium with KV Turnhout. He has also trialled for Dundee United and spent time with Gloucester City and Hampton & Richmond Borough. He was signed by Solihull Moors in the National League last season before joining Oxford City. He first caught the eye in an assured display against the Fleet on the last day of the 2016/17 season (pictured) and after putting in a good performance against Bromley last Tuesday he has done enough to be added to the Fleet squad.
“He came in and did well, he’s a good ball player and a big presence,” McMahon said. “He’s a little short on match fitness but he’s another option at a time when our options in those positions are being reduced.”
Niate will wear squad number 27.
