Fleet take Terriers stopper on loan

The Fleet have signed highly rated 19-year-old goalkeeper Giosue Bellagambi on a month’s loan from Championship club Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers’ Academy goalkeeper hails from Croydon and made the move to the John Smith’s Stadium in 2018 after impressing the then Premier League club in his time at boyhood outfit Lambeth Tigers.

He has impressed international bosses, too, having been called up to both Italy’s and England’s U19 training camps and is also eligible to play for Uganda.

Gio, who signed a professional contract with Huddersfield in the summer, was on loan earlier this season at table-topping Northern Premier League club Ramsbottom United, keeping clean sheets in his first two games.

He comes into a Fleet squad without Tom Hadler, who is currently battling back from a knee complaint and also due to an injury sustained by Jordan Holmes last week – which left recently registered academy goalkeeper Harrison Firth as the only fit No.1.

Gio is an athletic and agile shot-stopper with excellent kicking and distribution qualities and the Fleet would like to thank parent club Huddersfield Town for their support in completing the deal. The Terriers are one of a number of Premier League and Championship clubs with whom we have built a strong network of contacts to utilise the loan market, for the ultimate benefit of continually strengthening and developing Dennis Kutrieb’s playing squad.
