Jordan Holmes is back for another season at the Kuflink Stadium as he becomes the first signing of the Dennis Kutrieb era at Ebbsfleet United to be revealed.
The popular Australian U23 international agreed terms on a new deal with the Fleet earlier this week, citing ‘unfinished business’ and ‘exciting times ahead’ for the club in 2020/21.
The former AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper arrived at the club last August and immediately set about winning the hearts of the supporters, his first two appearances – against Notts County and Boreham Wood – coinciding with the Fleet’s first draw and win of the campaign.
Fleet lost only one of six matches through late August and September with Holmes newly installed in goal and the ‘keeper had a useful knack of saving penalties, surviving six of eight spot-kicks before Christmas.
After helping Australia secure qualification for the Tokyo Olympics, Holmes returned to the side at Maidenhead following an injury to David Gregory and proved instrumental in the final few matches of last season as Fleet earned successive clean sheets to climb clear of the relegation zone. In all he played 26 times in 2019/20.
The 23-year-old Sydney native said of his return to the Fleet for the new season ahead, “I believe in what we, the club and manager, want to try and and do next season, be that in the National League or the South. What’s in place for the new season, it is something to believe in here and I’m delighted to get the deal over the line. We don’t know exactly the situation for next year, but if we do have to do it the hard way, I want to be part of the resurgence that brings the club back. The fans have been great with me and I want to repay that.”
