Fleet settle into summer camp

The Fleet squad have completed their first day at their Portuguese training base in the Algarve with four more weekdays of gruelling workouts ahead of them.

Daryl McMahon explained that the setup was similar to previous years, which has enabled his side to hit the ground running from the first whistle of the new season.

“We’ll have five days training, Monday to Friday,” he told eufc.co.uk, “and we’ll do 13 or 14 sessions in that time. Every morning we have a football session, a gym session in the middle of that and another football workout in the late afternoon/evening. We’ll play a friendly on the Saturday and then fly back on the Sunday to our remaining pre-season fixtures. The setup is excellent for us again and the players work really hard – that’s the whole point of this week, to work hard and to see results.”

The Fleet will round off their week with a friendly against FC Ferreiras at the 2,000-capacity Estádio da Nora at 11.00 local time. FC Ferreiras, formed in 1983, play in the third-level Campeonato de Portugal, a similar standard to our opponents in previous summers, SC Farense and Olhanense.
