Ebbsfleet United are set to appeal to the Football Association over the red card issued to skipper Tom Bonner in last weekend’s match against Hayes & Yeading United.

Having viewed video footage of the incident, Fleet boss Daryl McMahon and club officials are certain they have a case. Referee Anthony da Costa dismissed Bonner first of four players (two on each side) who were eventually shown red cards following an incident in the 63rd minute of the goalless draw between the clubs.

“Tom’s done nothing,” McMahon told FleetOnline. “We can’t appeal for Cookie [Anthony Cook] as he’s gone head to head with their lad. Neither of them actually did anything beyond that, there was no headbutt, but you won’t get away with doing that.

“But Tom’s only gone in there to defuse the situation, stop a row between Anthony Acheampong and Darren Purse and he’s been grabbed by three or four Hayes players. It was four v one, so I’m still none the wiser – especially after seeing the video – how the ref sent Tom off in all that.”

Bonner is due to start a four-match ban from next Saturday should the red-card decision be upheld.

Meanwhile, in other news, Brandon Hall has been called up to the England C squad for the forthcoming International Challenge Trophy fixture v Ukraine later this month. Brandon made his England C debut back in November 2013 against Estonia.
