Roll up for Community Day

The Fleet are finalising preparations for the club’s Community Day on Saturday with first-time visitors from schools and clubs expected to swell the numbers at Stonebridge Road. The football club has been working behind the scenes for several months with local organisations to take the Fleet into the heart of the community as well as provide them with a platform to showcase their projects and talents.

Together with our Community Partners MiddletonMurray, The Gr@nd Gravesend, Northfleet Big Local, the Fleet Trust, MAPS Activities, No Walls Garden, CAS, Northfleet Harbour Restoration Trust, Kick Kent and Walk Tall, a tremendous amount of hard work has gone into making the day a memorable one for all involved.

Saturday’s crunch home game v fellow play-off contenders Hemel Hempstead Town kicks off at 3pm but Community Day sees the turnstiles open at 12.30pm. There are a range of guests setting up stall at the ground to ensure you’re well-fed and entertained in the build-up to the match. These include:

The Bench Café

The Bench Café is located at The Gr@nd Healthy Living Centre in the Old Courthouse, King Street, Gravesend, offering a range of menus in a relaxed atmosphere. One of the unique features of the Bench Cafe is its “Not Guilty” menu which uses food from Fareshare.org and turns it into meals that you can pay what you want for. Fareshare redistributes food that would otherwise be wasted and go to landfill, even though it is fit to eat. Those on a low budget can come and enjoy a wholesome low-cost meal at the Bench Café any time. The Bench Café manager, Judy Taylor, is also the local Community Chef and works in conjunction with the healthy living team at The Gr@nd to encourage children and families to cook and eat healthier meals. For further information please contact Amit or Judy at The Grand on 01474 320123 or email [email protected].

The African Caribbean Forum

The African Caribbean Forum was formed to promote community cohesion, career development and cultural integration in and around Gravesham Borough and other neighbouring councils in Kent. The forum provides support and assistance on various social, educational, vocational and personal issues. The African Caribbean Forum is proud of African/Caribbean cuisine and would like to integrate it into the community by making it freely available for everyone to learn and enjoy. EUFC’s Community Day gives ACF an ideal opportunity to introduce Fleet fans and Community Day guests to some great African/Caribbean dishes.

McCarthy Country Stores

McCarthy Country Stores are regulars at the Gravesend Farmers’ Market held on the second Friday of the month near the junction of Windmill Street and New Road. McCarthy’s use only the finest of ingredients, care and passion in producing their bread, focaccias and cakes. If you don’t fancy any hot dishes on the day, McCarthy’s will tempt you to a great cup of tea or coffee and their tempting range of cakes and focaccias.
