Tributes to be paid to former Fleet skipper

There will be a minute’s applause in memory of our FA Trophy-winning captain Paul McCarthy before Saturday afternoon’s home game v East Thurrock United.

The players will be wearing black armbands in honour of Paul, who died aged 45 last week.

The enlarged matchday programme will also feature several tributes to Paul from Liam Daish, teammate Ross Smith, a number of former club officials and include memories and photographs of his long career at Stonebridge Road.

The club is working with the Fleet Supporters Trust to plan a further suitable tribute in memory of Paul and to help support his family which will be communicated to supporters at a later date.

A number of Fleet fans will be wearing the 2008 FA Trophy-winning shirt this Saturday in honour of Paul and the club is pleased to support and publicise that – or failing your having a Wembley shirt, any Fleet top during the years of Paul’s career here with us (2004–13) would be a fitting tribute.
