“This is a very special football club” – Peter Varney says thank you…

Ebbsfleet United’s executive vice chairman Peter Varney has thanked fans, staff and players at the club for the warm welcome he received today against Warrington Town in his final match as a club director.

Following the guard of honour of players and staff before kick-off plus a presentation by Dean Pooley and Daryl McMahon, Peter requested the following message be sent to everyone at the Fleet on his behalf.

“Thank you so much to everyone at the club for the fantastic send off I received today,” he wrote. “The guard of honour at kick-off time was a really nice touch (if not a bit emotional!) and the reception I got from the Fleet fans, the players and the management has left me with a great memory.

“I must also thank all the staff, sponsors, supporters and players for all the gifts I received on the day, the flowers for my wife and the cards that supporters brought to the match and the nice tributes in the matchday programme.

“A special mention also to Nigel Odd who presented me with a Rotary Watch before the match which put my own watch to shame!

“This is a very special football club with special people on and off the field and I can’t thank everyone enough for the day I was given today which was totally overwhelming.”
