While on the pitch the Fleet go in search of a fourth successive home win this weekend, off the pitch there are some intriguing attendance stats to reach for, too.
If the Kuflink Stadium can top the 2,041 mark this Saturday against National League favourites Chesterfield, it will be the fifth time in a row this season that the Fleet have enjoyed a best gate of some form against each opposition.
The 1,360 against Solihull Moors on the opening day bettered the previous best of 1,325 against that opposition while last Saturday’s 1,724 against York City was some 200 more than the previous highest gate against the Minstermen.
The 1,561 achieved versus Aldershot was also the best league gate against them (beaten only by the crowd who turned up for the FA Trophy semi-final in 2008) while although previous attendances against Kidderminster in our Southern League heyday in the 1950s reached 2,700, the 1,356 this season was our best-ever National League/Conference gate against the Harriers.
Chesterfield’s first game in the National League came at the Kuflink Stadium in 2018 in front of a crowd of 2,041 and the Fleet are hoping that with a good turnout of expectant away fans and the increasing numbers of home fans coming through the turnstiles, that another attendance best can be recorded.
Fleet’s average this season so far is 1,500 and that’s running only slightly behind the club’s best attendance average of the past 50 years recorded in 2017/18. But even that figure is a little skewed given the opening match that season was a local derby against Maidstone that attracted 2,519 so the true running average is on course to top that in 2023/24.
