The Fleet can name a second new recruit this evening as centre-back Anthony Stewart has signed on a permanent deal.
News of the 32-year-old’s signing follows the earlier announcement of Todd Kane’s arrival and Stewart is another experienced and versatile defender who has played Championship and SPL football.
The centre-back, who can also operate on the right side of defence, came through Wycombe Wanderers’ successful youth system to break into their first-team in 2011/12. It was the first of two spells at Adams Park, punctuated by time at Crewe Alexandra. During his second spell, Stewart won promotion to the Championship with the Chairboys and was voted player of the season in the same campaign.
With more than 300 senior appearances in English football in all, the Fleet’s new recruit was able to add Scottish Premiership experience in 2022, signing for Aberdeen where he was named captain and went up against the likes of Celtic and Rangers on a regular basis.
He had two loan spells at MK Dons last season and now goes straight into the Fleet squad subject to the usual FA and League clearances being received.
