Left-back Pape Souaré has been added to Harry Watling’s Fleet squad ahead of today’s fixture against York City. The 34-year-old left-back joins the club on a permanent deal to the end of January.
The former Senegal international was a member of the Crystal Palace side that reached the 2016 FA Cup Final in which he played as the Eagles took Manchester United to extra-time at Wembley.
Souaré began his career in France where he came through Lille’s B-team ranks. He broke into the first-team in the same season that the club won the 2010/11 Ligue 1 title and he played 53 times in all competitions for Lille before his move to South London.
Palace landed the in-demand defender in January 2015 and Souaré spent four and a half years at Selhurst Park, amassing 26 international and Olympics caps with Senegal in that time, before a brief return to France with Troyes from 2019–21.
He was back in South London with Charlton Athletic in 2021/22 and since played for Morecambe and Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.
The 34-year-old started this campaign with AFC Croydon Athletic – owned by former Palace legend Wilfried Zaha – and now goes straight into the Fleet squad for today’s game
