On a fine night for Ebbsfleet United, prodigal son Ricky Shakes added to the good news with a goal in Guyana’s World Cup qualifying match against Bermuda in the opposition’s National Stadium.
Having started in the 2-0 win in Barbados at the weekend, Shakes was relegated to the bench for this clash but was not to be deterred once his chance came and he was introduced on 58 minutes. Bermuda led on 72 minutes though John Barry Nusam but with nine minutes left on the clock, Shakes was the hero, ghosting in at the far post to head home Kayode McKinnon’s cross and put Bermuda’s chances of qualifying to the sword. Unbeaten Guyana lead the CONCACAF Group B with 10 points from four games and play closest rivals Trinidad & Tobago twice next month.
Liam Daish hopes to welcome Shakes back to the Fleet squad in time for Saturday’s clash at AFC Telford.
