Salmon stands by

Ebbsfleet United defender Will Salmon has been selected in a 16-man contingency squad for England C duty.

The former Aldershot and AFC Wimbledon right back, an ever-present fixture for the Fleet so far this season, is on standby for England’s friendly international with Hungary on Tuesday 15 September. Also in the contingency squad is former Fleet striker Michael Gash, who scored his first goal for York City earlier this week.

The main squad contains 12 new call-ups as manager Paul Fairclough begins the process of rebuilding his U23 squad in preparation for the forthcoming International Challenge Trophy qualifiers which begin in the autumn. Fairclough said: "This is an ideal opportunity for players to stake a claim before the qualifying games begin. "There are other players still eligible that we are aware of but it is important to look at others to see how they adapt to international football and the rigours that go with it."
