Preview: Woking

It’s the last league game under the lights as the Kuflink Stadium hosts Woking and back-to-back wins will be the target for the Fleet following Saturday’s 3-0 win over Eastleigh.

Form guide
After defeat Halifax on Saturday, Woking dropped below the Fleet in the relegation zone with just a single point separating the two sides. Though struggling with picking up wins throughout the season, recent wins against Oxford City and away to Oldham Athletic have sent some confidence through the Cards’ squad but morale in the Fleet camp is just as high with Danny Searle’s side picking up their third win of 2024 and keeping the goals conceded total this year to just four goals in seven games.

Last time out
The sides met back in September also on a Tuesday night and the points were shared in Fleet’s first draw of the season. Jim Kellermann put the Cards ahead before the break from the spot but Ouss Cisse got a touch for his first Fleet goal on the hour mark from a Craig Tanner corner delivery.

New faces at Laithwaite Community Stadium
A change of manager has seen plenty of new faces in a big squad. Defender Dion Kelly-Evans joined from Banbury United having spent successful spells in the EFL for the likes of Coventry and Notts County. On loan from Luton for the remainder of the season is striker Jayden Luker. The 18-year-old signed a contract extension with the Premier League side and has been included four times in the Woking matchday squad. Another youth player from the top flight of English football is Josh Smith who joined on a permanent deal from Sheffield United. He featured for the Blades in their academy and was a part of the side that went on to win an U18 title. From the Premier League to Europe, the Cards have also added 30-year-old Curtis Edwards who comes in from Norwegian club Stabaek. The 6ft midfielder has also played for Swedish club Ostersund, who beat Arsenal at the Emirates in the Europa League.

The manager
A management change for the Cards saw Michael Doyle replace Darren Sarll in December. A former player for the likes of Sheffield United (188 appearances), Coventry City (332 appearances) and Portsmouth (90 appearances), the midfielder has over 800 professional matches to his name.

Club connections
Toby Edser played for the Cards during 2019/20, making 13 appearances with one goal during his time at the club, while man-of-the-match and debutant Bryant Bilongo also saw action for Woking in a brief loan spell last season. Cards midfielder Charlie Wakefield played alongside Fleet keeper Mark Cousins during their time at Bromley.

Another new Woking signing, Charley Kendall, scored the late winner for Dagenham at the Kuflink Stadium earlier this season.
