Preview: Tonbridge Angels

The Fleet are back on the road this evening to take on Tonbridge Angels in the fourth pre-season fixture of the summer campaign.

On Saturday, West Ham’s U21s became the third side to fall to the reds this month as Dominic Samuel continued his scoring spree, joined by new signing Kwame Thomas in his first appearance in a Fleet shirt.

Last year also saw a visit to Longmead in pre-season which ended in a 1-0 victory for the Fleet – Josh Wright converting from the spot for what was the only goal of the game.

Nathan Odokonyero will return to Longmead following a successful loan spell towards the end of the 2023/24 campaign while Fleet fans will see a familiar face in Sean Shields. The 32-year-old spent five seasons at the Kuflink Stadium and joined Tonbridge at the beginning of last season having enjoyed five years in the National League.

Managed by another former Fleet face in Jay Saunders, the Angels have achieved 9th and 14th place finishes in recent years. They have a new goalkeeper after the departure of long-standing No.1 Jonny Henley, with Toby Steward on a season-long loan from Portsmouth.

There are some other new faces, too, as Tonbridge look to build on a pre-season that started well with a 7-3 defeat of Corinthian before three successive home defeats – to Sutton United, Chatham Town and Bromley. They ended that run on Saturday with a narrow 2-1 victory over Margate.

Tickets can be purchased in advance here and also at the turnstiles (cash and card payments both accepted).
