Easter Monday usually has a lot riding on it and at the Kuflink Stadium this Bank Holiday, visitors Southend United likely need all three points if they are to take their play-off hopes into next weekend.
Form guide
Southend’s need for the three points was made more vital by their Good Friday Essex derby at home to Braintree Town where they were frustrated in a 0-0 draw. They currently sit five points outside the play-offs with three games to go. The Shrimpers have only picked up one win in their previous five fixtures – at home to Oldham – after a nine-game unbeaten run before that. Southend’s last away win, their only win on the road of the last seven, was at Eastleigh last month.
Previous affairs
There have only been three of them and Southend have had the upper hand over the Fleet at Roots Hall – but in Good Friday’s fixture here last season the spoils were shared when Dominic Poleon equalised Harry Cardwell’s opener.

Who’s who?
Gus Scott-Morriss is Southend’s leading goalscorer this season with 17 goals from a full-back position. The 27-year-old has featured over 100 times having previously played at the Kuflink Stadium for Royston Town in the FA Trophy.
Former Leyton Orient and Charlton striker Macauley Bonne signed with Southend in September 2024. With 85 goals in nearly 300 appearances throughout his career, Bonne has also played for the likes of Colchester United, Gillingham and Ipswich.
Goalkeeper Nick Hayes was bought from Barnet this season, having played for Solihull Moors on loan against the Fleet last season. He might come under pressure for his place now that previous No.1 Collin Andeng-Ndi is back from injury.
The manager
Kevin Maher – assisted by former Fleet player of the year Mark Bentley – took the reins at Southend during the 2021/22 season and has managed over 170 games with the club. During his playing career, Maher played for Southend as well as Gillingham.
