Preview: Slough Town

The Bank Holiday weekend provides two opportunities for more points for Josh Wright’s side and it begins at Slough Towh’s Arbour Park for the first visit since an FA Cup replay in October 2023.

Form guide
Despite it being the early stages of the campaign, both teams sit at different ends of the league table. Slough are yet to pick up their first win of the season with their only point coming on the opening day of the campaign at Tonbridge Angels. The Rebels are also yet to find the back of the net during their opening three matches.

Meanwhile, the Fleet will look to continue on their perfect start. A win on Tuesday night against Chelmsford City secured a third win out of three and another clean sheet, leaving Josh Wright’s squad as the only one in the division yet to concede a goal.

Head to head
The last time the two sides faced each other in the National League South was back in March 2023 in front of the TV cameras. One goal separated the sides and that wonder strike came from Dominic Poleon in the second half. The Fleet secured the double over Slough that season with the reverse fixture back in December won by goals from Rakish Bingham and Greg Cundle. The two sides were drawn together in the FA Cup the following season, with Slough winning 2-0 in a home replay (pictured below) after a 2-2 draw at the Kuflink Stadium.

Summer signings
Tyrique Clarke
made the move from Poole Town in the summer. The 24-year-old midfielder has featured in all three matches so far for Slough. After breaking through the ranks at Yeovil Town, Clarke made a switch to Met Police and then Hendon where he spent short spells. After his departure from Hendon, he signed for Welling United in the National League South for one season.

Jordan Greenidge is one of Slough’s biggest names through the door this summer. The striker arrives at Arbour Park following his departure from Chelmsford City where he scored 7 times in 29 appearances. Greenidge has also played for the likes of Dartford, Tonbridge and Hemel.

Two ex-Fleet players are also likely to feature – defender Reiss Greenidge played a couple of games in our 2016/17 promotion season while midfielder Johnny Goddard (below) was with us for a season in 2019/20.

The manager
Scott Davies
is the highest ranked player-manager in English football. Davies took on the management role in November 2022 following a period as caretaker manager, saving the Rebels from relegation in his first season. The 37-year-old’s playing career saw him play for the likes of Aldershot Town, Oxford United, Wealdstone, Chelmsford City and Oxford City. He has also made more than 200 appearances for Slough.
