Preview: Oldham Athletic

Just one fixture of the 2024/25 campaign remains as the Fleet travel to Greater Manchester to face Oldham Athletic in what will be only the club’s second visit to Boundary Park.

Form Guide
Oldham’s season will continue after the final whistle with the Latics already confirmed in the play-offs but they will still want to secure the victory against the Fleet to make sure of a home tie in the eliminator round. FC Halifax Town are currently level on points with the hosts but Oldham are ahead on goal difference. Oldham can finish no higher than their current position of fifth but a defeat against the Fleet would risk them falling as far as seventh place.

The Latics recent run of form has seen them suffer four defeats in the last six matches with only a win at home to Hartlepool on Good Friday gaining maximum points.

Previous affairs
While the Fleet’s fate is sealed, the squad will hope to finish the season on a high. Last year’s trip to Boundary Park was one of the most notable games of 2023/24 with the visitors sending four past Oldham – Greg Cundle, Dominic Poleon, Nathan Odokonyero and Dominic Samuel on the scoresheet. Samuel’s goal in the 93rd minute secured him the club’s goal of the season.

In the reverse fixture at the Kuflink Stadium back in September this season, the Fleet fell just short after Dominic Poleon’s equalising penalty was cancelled out by Otis Kahn’s winner.

Who’s who?
Mike Fondop is Oldham’s leading goalscorer with 17 plus six assists in the League, making a total of 39 goals in his 110 appearances. He joined from Hartlepool during the 2021/22 season and was previously at Wrexham, Chesterfield, Billericay Town and Guiseley.

Reagan Ogle was a summer signing and the 25-year-old has become a regular feature with 35 appearances in 2024/25. The Australian full-back has also played in the EFL for Accrington Stanley and Hartlepool United.

Oldham share a few goals amongst their defenders but in the middle, Josh Lundstram is the player with an eye for goal having scored five this season. The former Altrincham and Crewe Alexandra is an influential figure in his second season at Boundary Park and has returned to the lineup after a spell on the sidelines through March.

The manager
Micky Mellon is a notable name in the National League having led Tranmere Rovers to the EFL, when they beat the Fleet in the semi-finals. Mellon arrived at Boundary Park in October 2023 and will take charge of his 80th match as the Latics manager against the Fleet on Monday. He has also managed the likes of Dundee United, Shrewsbury Town and Fleetwood Town.
