Preview: Gillingham + FREE online programme

Gillingham make their first pre-season visit to the Kuflink Stadium since 2018 (although they did play here in the Kent Senior Cup last season) as Gareth Ainsworth’s side face their penultimate friendly before the League Two season kicks off.

The Gills have played Dover, Reading and Luton Town so far with a balanced set of results (1-0, 0-0 and 0-2 respectively) as the still relatively new boss (appointed in March) finalises his plans before the season proper begins. They have also faced Southampton in a training game.

Josh Wright, a former Gills skipper, has a further week to formulate his options and Fleet’s other ex-Gillingham players are expected to play a part: Max Ehmer, Jake Hessenthaler, Dom Samuel and Ben Chapman. Assistant manager David Kerslake is another with links to Priestfield having held the same role with our visitors from 2015-17.

One of Gillingham’s big new signings – Welsh international and former Premier League striker Sam Vokes – is out with an injury but another new arrival Seb Palmer-Houlden (Bristol City) is likely to feature. A left-back trialist has also been involved through the summer. The Gills kept a quite large retained list from 2024/25 so there’s is a big squad but one with a few injury problems at present.

Former Blackburn player of the year Bradley Dack began their last friendly on Saturday together with the likes of the Gills’ current player of the year goalkeeper Glen Morris and ex-National League players Armani Little and Remeao Hutton.
