For the final time in 2024, the Fleet take to the field at the Kuflink Stadium to host Gateshead, the team against who it all began this season.
Form guide
Gateshead’s last league fixture saw a home victory by 4-0 against Woking with top scorer Owen Oseni again on the scoresheet. In midweek, with six changes in the side, they banged in eight goals against Farsley Celtic in the FA Trophy. Saturday’s opponents are fourth in the National League with 12 wins out of a possible 22 and sit six points off the top. On their travels, they have won four of 11.
Previous meetings at the Kuflink
Last season the Fleet secured a valuable three points on home soil against the Heed as Rakish Bingham secured his first hat-trick in a Fleet shirt in a 4-2 victory. Louis Storey was shown a red card inside five minutes for the visitors in that one. Gateshead last won here in 2018, by 1-0.
Last time out
In the reverse fixture on the opening day of the campaign, the Heed got the three points with a hat-trick from Greg Olley helping them on their way to a 5-1 win. Skipper Olley then received a serious injury in the very next game and he will still be missing for this one.
New faces at the Gateshead International
Owen Mason is a 20-year-old goalkeeper who joined Gateshead on loan from Mansfield Town in November following injury to main keeper Tiernan Brooks. Previously loaned out to Farsley Celtic and Wexford, Mason came through the Mansfield academy. In his five appearances for the Heed, the young keeper has kept two clean sheets.
Josh Williams is on loan from Birmingham City since November and the wide player has featured five times. A second Josh, Josh Home, is also a loan arrival from the Blues.
The manager
Like the Fleet, Gateshead have a new manager since our first meeting. Carl Magnay was appointed following the departure of Rob Elliott who made the switch to League One Crawley Town. Formerly a long-serving player, Magnay played for the likes of Grimsby Town, Hartlepool and had two previous spells with Gateshead, playing at Wembley in both of them.
