With the first point of the season racked up against Braintree Town last Bank Holiday Monday, the Fleet will look to push on as FC Halifax Town travel to Kent for the third home Saturday in a row.
Last time out
Though still early days as far as the National League table is concerned, FC Halifax Town sit 17th with one win in five that includes two draws – that win came on the first day against favourites Barnet but the Shaymen have been without another win in four since. They hosted Solihull Moors on Monday and fell to a single first-half goal despite applying plenty of pressure on the visitors’ goal after that.
Previous affairs
A memorable moment for Fleet fans against the Shaymen was back in 2022 when the-then lower-tier Ebbsfleet knocked Halifax out in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup. The Fleet have won five of the previous nine matches against Saturday’s opponents, the biggest victory being 4-0 back in November 2018 in Garry Hill’s first league match as manager – Danny Kedwell, Chris Bush and Michael Cheek (2) on the scoresheet.
Who’s who
Goalkeeper and captain Sam Johnson continues his reign with the Shaymen as he reached his 400th appearance for the club during their last outing. Johnson arrived at the Shay in 2017 for his second spell and has been the number one ever since.
Breaking through the Bolton Wanderers Academy, Adam Senior – who scored at the Kuflink last season – arrived on loan at Halifax in January 2023 before making his move permanent the following summer. The 22 year-old has featured 67 times since his debut with five goals along the way from a defensive position.
Injuries have kept Jo Cummings, Kane Sommers-Thompson and Max Wright out of the starting lineup this season but the influential Florent Hoti returned to the starting lineup on Monday. In search of a little more firepower, Halifax could choose to start summer signing from Blackpool Zak Emmerson, who scored five times in 11 games on loan at Eastbourne last season.
The manager
Chris Millington was appointed as first-team manager back in 2022 following an assistant role to previous boss Pete Wild. FC Halifax Town is Millington’s first managerial role and he has won the FA Trophy and made the play-offs in his two seasons.
