The Fleet head back on the road north this Saturday with a trip to Greater Manchester to take on Altrincham with new signing pair Charles Ondo and Mustapha Olagunju part of the squad aiming to build on the last away point at Braintree.
Last time out
Altrincham hosted Oldham Athletic at the J Davidson Stadium with the spoils shared in a 1-1 draw while their other home results have seen a balance of a 1-0 win and a 1-0 defeat. After reaching the play-offs last season, the home side sit in 15th, with six points more than their visitors this Saturday.
Previous affairs
Last season was one to forget as Altrincham’s first-half performance set them on their way to a 6-1 win, Nathan Odokonyero picking up his first goal for the Fleet, and Phil Parkinson’s side completed the double in April on their way to the play-offs. Fleet last won at Altrincham when we did so twice in 2007.
Who’s who
In goal for the Robins stands Ethan Ross who has been number one since last October. He has made 44 appearances for the side. Previous spells saw Ross play for the likes of Colchester United, York City and Weymouth. Back for his second spell with the Robins, James Jones amassed over 100 appearances for Altrincham which earned him a move to the EFL with Barrow in 2020. After two years with the former National League side, Jones returned to the J Davidson Stadium and has added 53 appearances since his return.
In the midfield is experienced Elliot Osbourne who arrived in 2022 from Stevenage, having also played for the likes of Stockport County, Fleetwood and Morecambe. And up front is Regan Linney who signed for the Robins in February 2023 from FC Manchester United following four years at the club. Since his arrival, Linney has bagged 56 goals for the club – though has just the one this season in a side that has managed the same number of goals as the Fleet so far with four. They are also without the goals of one of the league’s standout players of last season, Chris Conn-Clarke, who signed for Peterborough United in the summer.
The manager
Joining in April 2017, boss Phil Parkinson is contracted until the end of the this season. He managed Nantwich Town before moving to Altrincham, where he was successful and led them to an FA Trophy semi-final and two promotions from the Northern Premier League and the National North. Parkinson guided Altrincham to the the play-offs in 2023/24 where they lost to Bromley in the semi-final.
