Preview: Aldershot Town

Following back-to-back wins for the first time this season as AFC Fylde and Tonbridge Angels both fell to 1-0 defeats at the hands of the Fleet, Josh Wright takes his side to the EBB Stadium.

Form guide
A run of wins for the Shots has seen them ease away from the drop zone as 16 points from a possible 18 puts them in 14th place. That’s in sharp contrast to the one win in 11 before that which looked like sending Aldershot into the bottom four. They have also made it to an FA Trophy semi-final against their main rivals Woking, their first Trophy last-four since meeting the Fleet at the same stage 17 years ago.

Last time out
A goalless draw at the Kuflink Stadium in September was the result in the earlier fixture where Fleet had a number of chances to win the game. That match under the lights was Josh Wright’s first taste of management as he stepped in as interim boss following the departure of Danny Searle.

Who’s who
Top goalscorer for the Shots this season is Josh Barrett with 12 from 30 matches. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder is in his second season with the club following his arrival from King’s Lynn Town. The former Irish youth international has also played for the likes of Bristol Rovers, Coventry City and Reading.

Cameron Hargreaves has featured 37 times this season having arrived from King’s Lynn in the summer. He had had previous spells at Hungerford Town and Bristol Rovers. His father Chris played for Torquay United against the Fleet in the 2008 FA Trophy Final.

The manager
In the dugout for the Shots is Tommy Widdrington who has returned to the dugout after more than a month out through illness. He has held previous managerial roles at King’s Lynn Town, Eastbourne Borough and Salisbury.

He enjoyed a successful playing career with the likes of  Hartlepool United, Port Vale, Grimsby Town and Southampton.

Club connections
Fleet loanee Tyler Cordner spent one season at the EBB Stadium and Toby Edser had two seasons with the Shots before his arrival at the Fleet. Kwame Thomas also made the switch from Aldershot to the Fleet, having turned out for them last season..
