Peter Wanless – funeral details

For those Fleet supporters wishing to attend the funeral of Peter Wanless, his family have asked the club to pass on details to you.

Peter, who passed away earlier this month, was remembered during a minute’s silence before last weekend’s home game against FC Halifax Town and the Fleet players wore black armbands in respect.

The service will take place at 3pm on Monday 23rd October at Thames View Crematorium & Cemetery (Gravesend Road, Shorne DA12 3JH).

This will be followed by a celebration of Peter’s wonderful life back at the Fleet at Stonebridge Road, Northfleet DA11 9GN.

The family will be paying tribute to Peter’s love for easyJet where he was employed by sending him on his final journey wearing his full uniform. They will also be wearing an element of easyJet’s orange and grey colours and fans are most welcome to join them in doing so.

Fleet CEO Damian Irvine paid tribute to Peter in last week’s programme notes, writing: “Having said farewell to Peter Danzey so recently, it is another very sad time for our club – and as staff and a fanbase we are here to support Cheryl and the Wanless family however we can.

“Peter Wanless was another of those true stalwarts at the Fleet who gave so generously of his time down the many years he and Cheryl have been involved. He was a regular volunteer here and, particularly since I arrived and through lockdown and the recovery period after that, he was a huge and crucial help in getting the stadium ready to bring our supporters back to their spiritual home. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Peter when he was in and around the club. He was a wonderful, warm-hearted and giving man and we will all miss him dearly as we offer much love and support to Cheryl going forward.”
