The Fleet have added Wes Fonguck to the ranks for 2024/25 as the 26-year-old central midfielder makes the move across the Thames after leaving Southend United.
The experienced South Londoner started out in Crystal Palace’s youth setup and was briefly with Croydon before he was scouted by Barnet and joined their youth academy in 2014.
He made his debut aged 17 for the Bees and after loan spells with Hendon and Hampton & Richmond, he broke into the Barnet first-team with the club in League Two.
Fonguck made more than 150 appearances in his time at The Hive, scoring 15 goals, and he also earned England C honours in 2019.
He switched the Bees for the Blues in the summer of 2022, signing for Southend United. Across two seasons with Kevin Maher’s side, he played 73 games, scoring five times – and he featured in both matches against the Fleet last season as Southend just missed out on the play-offs despite their 10-point deduction.
Comfortable on the ball and a player who thrives on linking up the midfield to attack, the energetic Fonguck told FleetTV: “I really enjoyed the playing style when we were up against Ebbsfleet last season. Any smart person can read between the lines and can see that this team is on a journey and I’m excited to be here for it.”
Wes will complete his move to the club once the necessary registration process is finalised with the FA.
