Daryl McMahon was pleased with the grittier side of the Fleet this afternoon as his team held out for a 1-0 win. With the strikers and midfielders having taken all the plaudits in recent home games for their goalscoring, it was the turn of goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore and his defenders to earn some recognition.
“Nathan’s the best in the league for me,” McMahon told BBC Radio Kent’s Matt Davison. “He’s an outstanding goalkeeper. There’s lots of good goalies in the league but I’ve not seen one as good as him.”
And the Fleet boss was happy to add to his side’s recent run of good form as they moved back into the play-off spots. “We were probably a bit patchy throughout the game but we put together some great moves. Overall I’m pleased with the win,” said McMahon.
“At the end there, they had a couple of shots. You can see what it means to the players to win the match, they were putting their bodies on the line.
“We’re ticking along nicely, that’s the last six league games with five wins and a draw. We’re in good form, we’re winning games and I’m happy with that.”
