Lewis hails intensity and togetherness

Fleet goalscorer and player of the year Stuart Lewis was delighted to set his side on the road to victory in the first-leg semi-final at Whitehawk last night, his 28th minute strike breaking the deadlock at The Enclosed Ground.

“It was great to get an important goal in a big game,” he told BBC Radio Kent. “I felt the momentum was really with us. We go away knowing we can be happy with our performance. I felt I had the legs on their midfielders. If we can take that intensity and that togetherness into Sunday then I think we’ll be OK. I cannot wait to Sunday and to get them back to Stonebridge Road.

“The gaffer said to me and Rancey could we nip in with a few goals in the play-offs. I save the goals for the important games!”

Fleet’s other goalscorer Danny Kedwell finally converted one of his booming free-kicks after coming close on several occasions this season. It was the No.9’s 12th goal of the season and he told Kent Online’s Steve Tervet, “We’d have taken that score at the beginning of the game. It was going to be difficult to come here, you’ve got to come to these places and dig in. We have to do the same on Sunday. We’ve got to make sure we keep on top of things.

“I’ve been trying all season with those [free-kicks], not one’s come off. So it’s come at a perfect time, I’ve been saving it! I’ve won play-offs, I know what it takes… it depends who turns up on the day. We turned up today, we’ve got to make sure we turn up Sunday.”
