Birthday boy Danny Kedwell will be Fleet’s club captain for the 2016/17 season, manager Daryl McMahon has told FleetOnline.
“Keds got the nod,” the boss said this morning. “And Dave Winfield will be vice captain. It gives us leadership at both ends of the pitch. We’ve got several real leaders, battlers who can organise things, and Keds has been a reliable talisman for us and as anyone who’s seen him at the club over the past 18 months would expect he’s worked tremendously hard in pre-season.”
The former Gillingham and AFC Wimbledon striker, who turned 33 yesterday, captained the Fleet during the play-off campaign at the tail end of last season and has scored 19 times in 64 appearances since joining from the Priestfield outfit in January 2015.
The Fleet squad undergo one last training session this week ahead of the big kick-off and we’ll be looking ahead to that game on FleetOnline later today.
