Greek midfielder targets Bishop’s double

fakinosEbbsfleet United have finally been granted international clearance for Greek central midfielder Giannoulis Fakinos.

The 21-year-old player has been without a club since moving from his native Greece to study in England. An U19 international, he was previously part of an Olympiakos squad alongside Brazilian legend Rivaldo before playing for fellow Super League side Panionios in 2008 and then second-tier Greek side Ilioupoli. In 2009-10 he settled at third-division club Apollon Smyrni, the oldest sports club in Greece.

Having turned out for the Fleet’s reserves and scoring in a 3-1 defeat by Bishop’s Stortford last week, the Greek player is aiming to play a role in the first-team match against the same club this coming Saturday – and hoping to repeat his goalscoring feat. Before that, he will likely see action in the Kent Senior Cup quarter-final at Bromley on Thursday night where the likes of Scott Ginty and Gareth Williams may also get a run-out.
