Jamie Day will use the Trophy replay at Welling United on Tuesday evening (23rd) to size up more of his squad as he shuffles his pack ahead of the second in a four-game run over the Christmas period.
He told FleetOnline this morning that Saturday’s defeat at home to Weston-super-Mare illustrated exactly where he needs to strengthen the team. “The team’s problem is and I’m guessing must have been the lack of goals, clearly. I thought we created enough chances in the opening 45 minutes to get those goals. The second half it died and we were too slow, our pace was slow.
“I need to nail down the players I want to stay and the ones that might not fit in to what we want to do and how we want to play. So it could be that everyone will play at Welling tomorrow that didn’t get game time on Saturday because everyone’s got a couple of weeks to show me what they can do and it’s up to them to do so. We’ve got a busy schedule coming up but after that we’ll look to bring players in to add better quality to the squad.”
Welling have reduced admission to £10 adults, concessions are £6, 12-17-year-olds £5, and under 12s free with an adult. Seating is available for no extra charge and an eight-page programme will be reissued from the postponed game last week.
The Wings have appointed former Grays manager Jody Brown to replace Day but, like the new Fleet boss did last week in the first tie, Brown will watch from the stands as young Welling skipper Jake Gallagher takes charge for the final time as caretaker.
