Fleet swoop for Angels’ defender

The Fleet have completed the signing of highly rated young centre-back Ronny Nelson from Tonbridge Angels.

The 21-year-old, who stands 6ft 5in tall, starred in 41 National League South games for the Angels last season and also played in their Kent Senior Cup semi-final here at the Kuflink Stadium.

Fleet’s new signing pays close attention to Aaron Cosgrave last season

He was spotted by Leicester City while playing for Gillingham’s academy as a teenager and moved to the King Power Stadium in 2021, becoming a regular in the Foxes’ Premier League 2 side while also playing for the first-team in the Football League Trophy.

He followed up that experience with a switch to Colchester United in the summer of 2023, once again appearing in the Football League Trophy. He enjoyed loan spells with Torquay United and Dartford before a permanent move to Longmead last summer.

The composed young defender immediately flourished in the Angels first-team, becoming one of the mainstays of Jay Saunders’ team throughout a hugely consistent season.

We welcome Ronny to the club – and if you would like to sponsor him in this coming campaign, please drop us a message via [email protected].
