Fleet staff walking on air

EUFC staff were walking on air yesterday morning after narrowly defeating an “aggressive” EUFC Supporters team by 2-1, even without the physical contribution of defensive enforcer, the injured Peter Danzey.

Vice chairman Peter Varney was the hero of the hour (his words, not ours) finishing top goalscorer with four goals in four matches and scoring both goals in the final, thereby quadrupling Dean Pooley’s tally of one goal in 100+ matches.

Kenny Clark, who with club director Stuart Butler-Gallie organised the first ever EUFC Walking Football Tournament, said “It was a great evening and I would like to thank everyone who took part and hope they had a good evening. Varney’s performance has given the gaffer a real selection headache for this weekend. I was told to say that by the way if I wanted to get paid this month.”

Photos and reaction from the Over 50s match will feature in our Truro City matchday programme.

The club, meanwhile, were delighted by the success of the event and want to work with fans to make it a regular activity.
