Fleet release three players

Ebbsfleet United have announced that three of last season’s squad will not be retained for the club’s return to the Blue Square Bet Premier division in August.

Defenders Dean Pooley and Aidan Sherlock, and forward Gareth Wiiliams have been released by the club.

Manager Liam Daish was keen to thank the players for their contribution to the Fleet’s promotion campaign: “All three players played a part in our success last season and it was the depth that they gave to our squad that made it possible for us to enjoy a successful conclusion to our league campaign. Modern football is a squad game and these players were always ready to play their part whenever called upon. I would like to place on record my thanks for their contributions to Ebbsfleet United and to wish them good luck in their future careers”.

Pooley, 24, joined the Fleet in 2008 and made a total of 78 appearances for the club, including 23 league games in 2010-11’s promotion campaign. He also came on as a substitute in the play-off final. Ex-Colchester striker Williams was a September capture from Croydon and he started 12 league and cup games, with another 20 appearances from the bench. Youngster Sherlock was a graduate of the club’s youth game and made on substitute appearance as well as featuring in Kent Senior Cup games.
