Things may be all quiet on the football front (activity on that is going on behind closed doors) but the hard graft at Stonebridge Road continues apace. Following the removal of all four floodlight pylons this week, work has also started on regenerating the pitch.
Although the Fleet pitch withstood everything the elements could throw at it over the past season, the club continues to invest in its playing surface each summer to ensure the high standards created in 2013-14 are carried forwards.
This week, experienced ground staff will be scarifying the surface to remove excess build-up and dead grass and then sanding and seeding will begin to encourage healthy growth.
Overseeing the pitch regeneration is Fleet head groundsman Craig Freeman, whose place on the shortlist for Conference Groundsman of the Year is surely deserved recognition for an excellent year’s work.
