Fleet make Academy appointments

The Club confirmed this morning that a new Youth Academy is being set up with effect from March 1.

Daryl McMahon has been appointed as Youth Academy Manager and former Scotland U21 defender Steve Watt will assist him as Youth Coach. Daryl will continue to be a member of the first-team squad and Steve will continue to play for Maidstone United.

Other staff appointments will be made in due course.

The existing U9 to U16 teams will be absorbed into the new youth academy structure at the end of the current season and trials for the new U18 team will take place at Stonebridge Road on February 19 and 20 and April 9 and 10 โ€“ from 10am to 12.30pm on each day. Anyone wishing to register for a trial should do so at www.scl-online.co.uk.

Manager Steve Brown said, “This is another significant step forward in the growth and development of the football club. It is essential that we start the process of developing our own young talent for the first team.

“We have linked up with SCL who will manage the education provision at the new academy which is very important as not every player will progress and they will need to have an education to fall back on.

“I am delighted that we have secured the services of two talented young coaches in Daryl and Steve to run the youth academy and I very much look forward to working with them.”
