Fleet go West as club favourite returns

Michael West today returns to the club where he made a huge impact as he signs for a third spell in Fleet colours.

The attacking midfielder broke into the Fleet first team from the club’s youth ranks as a 16-year-old, making his debut in the Kent Senior Cup in November 2007 before his league debut followed in April 2009.

He shot to prominence in the 2010/11 season, scoring his first goal for the club at Farnborough and ended the season against the same club in the promotion final having found the net 23 times, six of them in that scintillating play-offs display alone. His overhead kick in that final, plus a second goal and an assist, wrote his name into Fleet history as he proved unplayable throughout the play-off campaign.

West continued his spree in the Conference Premier in 2011/12, capturing the attentions of League scouts and he made the move to Crewe Alexandra in League One in the summer of 2012, having played more than 120 times for the Fleet.

Injury robbed him of a straight run in the Crewe side and he played for Hereford United on loan before returning to the Fleet in January 2014 and then on to Whitehawk, Chelmsford City and most recently Eastbourne Borough, for whom he played 54 times across a two-season stay.

West becomes the fourth announced signing for the 2020/21 season in what has been another busy week at the Kuflink Stadium as Dennis Kutrieb’s squad takes shape.
