Fleet come up with the Goods as defender Jake makes it 11

Fleet have added a third defender to the squad today as Jake Goodman is announced as the next addition for the forthcoming 2020/21 campaign.

The 26-year-old Bexley-born centre-back, who lives locally, has played against us on numerous occasions in the past, most recently for Bromley where he was in the same squad as Adam Mekki at Hayes Lane, and he has spent the last four seasons in the National League.

The 6ft 2in defender was a Millwall youth player, turning professional for the Lions in 2012 despite interest from Newcastle United. After gaining plenty of senior experience on loan with Staines Town, Luton Town, Aldershot Town (where he also played with Mekki) and finally AFC Wimbledon in League Two, Goodman spent the 2015/16 season with Margate.

The following season saw him move on to Braintree Town and then a season with South champions Maidenhead United for their first campaign in the National League, making 43 appearances and helping the Magpies to the highest position in their history.

He was one of Neil Smith’s new signings for the 2018/19 season at Bromley, playing 22 times for the Ravens before injury curtailed his appearances.

Now back to full fitness, Goodman joins former teammate Mekki in Fleet’s new-look squad.

He told the club website on signing (see interview to follow shortly), “I’m looking forward to getting back into pre-season, it’s going to be tough, we’ve had a long break and we’ll need to be prepared to work hard and hit the ground running. I’ve played at Ebbsfleet lots of times, I’m local to the area and I’m used to the surroundings so just waiting to get started now.”
