Fleet bow out of county cup

A youthful Fleet side was unable to overcome a strong Ramsgate lineup in the Second Round of the Kent Reliance Senior Cup on Tuesday night. With three games coming in a week for the Fleet, including two vitally important National League South games, Daryl McMahon was unwilling to risk his squad ahead of a busy end to November.

Ramsgate started with nine of the players who began their previous Ryman League Division One South game while Fleet were dealt a blow when goalkeeper Michael Jordan pulled out in the warm-up to be replaced by U19s keeper Ben Nourse.

The Rams soon made their senior experience count as they raced into a 4-0 half-time lead. Tom Chapman and Aaron Millbank struck in the first 10 minutes, Alfie Paxman made it three on 18 minutes and Chapman added his second as the tie was out of reach before the Fleet could really get going in wet, slippery conditions.

The visitors dug in during the second half but couldn’t prevent Ramsgate adding one more in the 63rd minute as they progress to the quarter-finals.

EUFC: Nourse, Boulding, Atkinson, Holmes, Forrest, Chapman, Jones (Della Valle 79), Rudd (Tagg 51), Wood, James Miles (Long 51), Eboda. Sub not used: Sam Miles
Attendance: 183
