Fleet boost arsenal with Amoo’s ammo

The Fleet are pleased to announce David Amoo as the club’s latest new recruit, a wide attacking player who signed his first professional contract with Liverpool and has played more than 400 senior games in England and Scotland since.

Born in South London, Amoo started locally in Millwall’s youth team with a goalscoring record that attracted Liverpool, who he signed for in 2007 aged 16. After reaching the FA Youth Cup Final with the Reds, he broke into the first-team squad under Roy Hodgson and played in the UEFA Europa League.

His first EFL action came on loan with MK Dons, Hull City and Bury before permanent stays with Preston North End and Tranmere Rovers.

From 2013–15, he enjoyed his best goalscoring spell at Carlisle United, earning the club’s player of the year award in 2014. Amoo spent the next two years in Scotland, helping Partick Thistle to their highest Scottish Premiership finish in 35 years in 2016/17.

It was back to England and the past seven seasons in League Two for Amoo as he played for Cambridge United, Port Vale – helping them to the play-offs and promotion in 2021/22 – then Stevenage and most recently Crewe Alexandra. Last season, he was part of the Stevenage side that produced a giant-killing in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round, winning 2-1 late on at Villa Park to dispose of Aston Villa.

While he has played as a striker during his career, a wide right position is his favoured role. A former 100m sprinter for London in the national schools track and field championship, Amoo is blessed with plenty of pace, ability and desire to get past full-backs and now brings those talents to the National League for the first time.
