Fleet bag Barnes to add to attacking options

The Fleet can unveil a new signing today as attacking wide player Finlay Barnes joins having figured in King’s Lynn Town’s National League North push to the play-offs last season. 

The 24-year-old has already racked up in the region of 250 appearances in senior football despite his age since leaving Norwich City’s academy in 2019.

He made the move to the city’s other side, Norwich United, after that, spending a season in Step 5 with them before a string of excellent performances saw him join Leiston in the Southern League. He helped the Suffolk outfit to the play-offs in 2023 and made 116 appearances, scoring 36 goals – an average of a goal every three games by the prolific winger.

He made another jump of two steps up the football pyramid in 2023 by signing for York City and while with the National League side, he also enjoyed successful loan spells at Darlington and Scarborough Athletic.

It was a sixth place finish last season and the play-offs again with the Linnets for the Fleet’s new signing in 2024/25 and despite an offer to stay on with King’s Lynn this campaign, it will be the Kuflink Stadium that the exciting, attacking player will play his football in 2025/26.

A left-footed player, Barnes has played much of his career on either side of the pitch and the immensely adaptable new signing also has a keen eye for goal.
