Fleet 4-1 Sutton United

The Fleet stormed to a big win as they scored four to add to the five already against Sutton this season to pick up a third victory of the season.

Josh Wright made just the one change as Josh Passley came in for Alex Aoraha while Sutton recalled top scorer Will Davies.

The first chance of the match fell to the visitors as a curling effort from Nana Boateng whispered past the upright.

Davies almost found the breakthrough with 15 minutes on the clock but Mark Cousins kept his close-range header at bay as the visitors pressed the Fleet for much of the opening period.

The Fleet’s first threatening chance came in the 19th minute. Tyler French intercepted but Ben Chapman picked up the pieces to send a low cross towards Aaron Cosgrave but Jack Sims was able to palm that one away.

This sparked a bright spell for the Fleet who settled into the game and Maxx Manktelow struck from a tight angle which was cleared off the line by Hayden Muller.

There was something of a pre-season feel about the first-half but the Fleet did find the breakthrough moments before half-time. A crucial interception by the lively Aaron Bolger in his own half gave the Fleet a vital throw-in. Aoraha – on for the injured Luke O’Neill midway through the half – latched on and his quick feet allowed him to drive the ball towards goal and find Ryan Carr who made no mistake from inside the area to score the opener and his first for the club.

The Fleet started the second-half how they ended the first. From a free-kick, George Moncur was returned the ball and he hit a pacy delivery into the box. Manktelow let it run past him and on to Mustapha Olagunju at the back post to stab the ball home.

The two-goal advantage lasted barely a minute as the visitors attacked swiftly and pulled one back as Lewis Simper sent a long-range effort across Mark Cousins and in.

Cosgrave went ever so close to restoring the two-goal lead when he got on the end of a neat build-up but close range header rose just over the bar. His goal did arrive however in the 68th minute. A tidy ball in from the right by Ben Chapman saw Cosgrave slot the ball past Sims from 10 yards out with a cheeky sidestep.

Penalty shouts came to nothing when Aoraha was shoved at the byline inside the box but nothing was awarded and Toby Edser tried his luck from range with Sims clearing that effort with his foot.

The fourth goal would arrive for the Fleet as Cosgrave grabbed his second. A superb ball by Aoraha, to secure his second assist, picked out the No.28 who had to beat Sims and Harry Ransom before finding the gap he needed to finish.
