Fleet 3-0 Stevenage

STACY LONG SCORES TWICE AS COMPETENT FLEET ADVANCE IN THE SETANTA SHIELD…

The Fleet advanced into the last eight of the Setanta Shield with a convincing 3-0 win over Stevenage Borough at a cold, sparsely-populated Stonebridge Road. Both sides fielded strong teams, though Mark Ricketts was suspended for the Fleet and Liam Daish started with Karl Murray, Jamie Hand, Kezie Ibe, Dean Pooley and Danny Slatter. Stevenage were without leading goalscorer Steve Morison and former Fleet midfielder Andy Drury, though Michael Bostwick did play.

The Fleet went ahead on 14 minutes when George Purcell crafted a fine goal after the Fleet broke away following a Borough attack.

Stacy Long added to that tally with his first of the night later in the half and rounded the evening off at the death with a second and Fleet’s third. Stevenage also had Mark Albrighton sent off for a second yellow card after a trip on Purcell. Stevenage looked out of sorts, especially after the break, and really only mustered any form of attack in the final quarter of the game with two half chances.
